ONLF can understand the oppression the Afar people are undergoing and we deeply sympathise with your plight. However we do not think what you stated in #1 of your current press release is helpful to both your cause and causes of all oppressed peoples under the Woyane regime. Somalis, Afars and Oromos have long border and since time immemorial were living together and will live together. All of us have no choice today to decide our destiny let alone our borders. It is the policy of all Ethiopian regimes to instigate animosity between Somali, Oromo and Afar people in order to perpetuate their unjust rule. Therefore it is not wise to fall into their trap and instigate hatred between our peoples. There are Somalis, Oromos, and Afars who work for the regime and are used as agent provocateurs to instigate wars and exacerbate communal strife over the overlapping territories between our peoples.
We suggest that if your intention is really to defeat the Woyane regime and get the rights of your people to desist from this type of rhetoric. The Somali people under Ethiopian rule had been are still struggling for their rights and your use of the colonialist language Somali irredentist regimes from Mogadishu serves only the interest of those who are keeping your people under shackles. The Afar people and liberation fronts were in Mogadishu too and you had your first Afar Radio programme in the World from Somalia.
