Ogaden Youth & Student Union (OYSU) will be holding its 3rd annual International Conference this week in San Diego, California starting on May 22nd. Over 100 members and guests representing 25 countries from 5 continents are expected to arrive.

Although majority of the delegates are expected to arrive in the next few days, early arrivals were welcomed over the past few days.

OYSU is youth led movements for change and its members are coming together to critically analyze the humanitarian crisis in the Ogaden in order to engage in conflict resolution dialogue.

It’s to be noted that the Ogaden region is a no-go zone where the Ethiopian government imposed a humanitarian, economic and trade embargo and is currently committing gross human rights violations. While simultaneously unleashing a scorched earth campaign of collective punishment against the civilians, causing the deaths of thousands and displacement of millions. An act many human rights groups consider a hidden genocide.

The conference comes at a critical time when the Ogaden is in desperate need of world attention, and OYSU is here to ensure that their messages are conveyed to the rest of the world.
