hunger strike. They reportedly began the strike 3 days ago and vowed to continue until their demands are met. Their complains include:

1) They have been denied access to legal counsel and visitation by family as guaranteed by the constitution and internationally accepted rights of prisoners.
2) They and other political prisoners held in Maekelawi are subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment including torture
3) The leaders and other political prisoners are not provided with proper medical care.

Therefore, they have informed prison officials their decision to go on with hunger strike until their complaints are adequately addressed or they die of starvation.

It has not been possible to verify how many political prisoners are taking part in the strike. However it has been confirmed that leaders of OFC including Bekele Gerba, Dejene Tafa, Desta Dinka, Adisu Bulala and others are part of it. In he last two months, over 1000 Oromos have been taken to Maekelawi in connection with the ongoing ‪#‎OromoProtests‬
